₹124 Crore Interchange Planned at Ahmedabad–Dholera Expressway and Sardar Patel Ring Road

2 min read

Connectivity between Ahmedabad and Dholera is set for another infrastructure upgrade, with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) inviting bids for a new interchange connecting the Ahmedabad–Dholera Expressway with Sardar Patel Ring Road (SPRR).

The proposed interchange has an estimated cost of ₹124.40 crore and will be developed under the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) model.

The tender was issued on September 8, 2026. Bids are scheduled to close on October 22, with opening planned for October 23. The project has an 18-month construction period.

New Interchange to Strengthen Road Connectivity

The interchange will be developed at the Ahmedabad end of the Ahmedabad–Dholera Expressway, where it meets Sardar Patel Ring Road.

The proposed infrastructure includes ramps and service roads designed to improve movement between the two corridors, including connections towards Dholera and Sanathal.

For Dholera SIR, the project would strengthen the connection between the expressway and Ahmedabad’s wider road network.

Ahmedabad–Dholera Expressway Is Already Operational

The proposed interchange follows the opening of the approximately 109-kilometre Ahmedabad–Dholera Expressway in March 2026.

The expressway provides a direct road connection between Ahmedabad and Dholera and has significantly reduced travel time between the two locations.

The new interchange would add another layer of connectivity to an expressway that is already operational.

Why It Matters for Dholera SIR

Efficient road connectivity is particularly important as industrial activity develops across Dholera.

The region is attracting activity in sectors including semiconductors, manufacturing and supporting industries. Better integration with Ahmedabad’s existing road network can support the movement of workers, equipment, materials and goods.

The interchange will also form part of a wider connectivity network that includes:

  • Ahmedabad–Dholera Expressway
  • Dholera International Airport
  • Sarkhej–Dholera semi-high-speed rail corridor
  • Internal roads within Dholera SIR

What Happens Next

The interchange remains a tendered project, not a completed facility.

The immediate milestones are:

  • October 22, 2026 — bid submission deadline
  • October 23, 2026 — scheduled bid opening
  • Appointment of the EPC contractor
  • Construction commencement
  • Development of ramps and service roads

The tender documents specify an 18-month construction period and a 10-year maintenance period.

RWI Perspective

The proposed ₹124.40 crore interchange is a targeted infrastructure project, but its location makes it relevant to the wider Dholera connectivity network.

With the Ahmedabad–Dholera Expressway already operational, improving its integration with Sardar Patel Ring Road can strengthen access between Dholera and Ahmedabad’s broader road network.

For those tracking Dholera SIR and Dholera Smart City Gujarat, the project is another infrastructure milestone to watch as the region’s transport network continues to develop.
